RAIPUR, 22 July 2026 — Chhattisgarh has cleared a mandatory 10 per cent job quota for returning Agniveer soldiers across key state civil services, establishing an official employment net for short-term military recruits. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired the cabinet meeting at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan in Nava Raipur that approved framing the Chhattisgarh Civil Services Reservation Rules-2026. They’ve locked in stable careers for discharged jawans.

The reservation applies directly to Class-III posts, specifically constables in the police department, forest guards in the forest and climate change department, and warders within the jail administration. Officials stated they’re infusing state security forces with highly disciplined personnel. But can the state successfully absorb thousands of returning soldiers without disrupting existing recruitment pools? It’s a calculated gamble that state leaders believe will strengthen local law enforcement frameworks.

Eligible candidates must complete their full four-year tenure in the Indian Armed Forces and hold a valid discharge certificate. The rules don’t offer shortcuts; applicants must still clear the mandatory written examinations. Chief Minister Sai originally announced the broad intent in the state assembly on 26 July 2024, and today’s cabinet decision formally codifies that promise into law.

And the policy aligns with similar structural updates across India as the first batches of Agnipath recruits aren’t going to be left without options upon exiting regular military service.

Alongside the military quota, the cabinet formed a specialized sub-committee led by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao to manage state fertiliser distribution. Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam and Finance Minister O P Choudhary won’t let supply disruptions hurt local farmers during the critical Kharif and Rabi seasons. They’ve empowered the panel to pull in institutional experts to streamline agricultural logistics.

The state’s security apparatus won’t look the same once these trained tactical units join the ranks of local governance.
