
Vinod Kumar Shukla, the celebrated Hindi litterateur, poet, novelist, and recipient of the prestigious Bharatiya Jnanpith Award, passed away today at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur. He was 89.
Shukla had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. The AIIMS administration confirmed his demise at 4:58 PM.
Vinod Kumar Shukla was among those rare creators in Hindi literature whose language, while extremely simple, was imbued with deep sensibility, human compassion, and philosophical depth. Through iconic works such as Naukar Ki Kameez (The Servant’s Shirt) and Deewar Mein Ek Khirki Rehti Thi (A Window Lived in a Wall), he gave extraordinary expression to the life, loneliness, and struggles of the common man.
His departure marks the end of an era, not just for the literary fraternity, but for the entire cultural world.
