Palakkad: In a shocking incident reminiscent of the 2018 Madhu lynching case, a 31-year-old migrant worker from Chhattisgarh was beaten to death by a mob in Kerala’s Palakkad district on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Ramnarayan Bhayar from Bilaspur, was reportedly profiled and accused of being a thief before the assault.
Video footage of the incident surfaced showing the attackers questioning Bhayar, asking, “Are you a Bangladeshi?” while he was being assaulted near Walayar. Despite being rushed to the Palakkad District Government Hospital, Bhayar succumbed to severe injuries later that night.
While local residents alleged that Bhayar was caught attempting burglary, the victim’s family has vehemently denied these claims, stating he had no criminal record and possessed no stolen items. Police have arrested five individuals and are investigating the specific roles of those involved. This incident has sparked renewed debate over mob violence and the profiling of migrant workers in the state.
