Sukma: For more than three decades, while many viewed Bastar through the lens of conflict and hardship, one man quietly dedicated his life to changing the future of its children. On Wednesday, educationist and social worker Shivmani Tiwari was felicitated in Sukma for his 36 years of service in the field of education and social development.

The honour was conferred during a special programme organized by Haribhoomi-INH, where public representatives, senior officials, educators and citizens gathered to celebrate a journey that has touched thousands of lives across the Bastar region.

The ceremony was attended by Chhattisgarh Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap as the chief guest, while Member of Parliament Mahesh Kashyap was present as the guest of honour. Senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief Dr. Himanshu Dwivedi presided over the event. Among those present were Sukma District Panchayat President Janmanidhi Banjare, District Collector Amit Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police Rohit Shah and several other dignitaries.

Speakers at the programme described Tiwari’s journey as one of perseverance, commitment and faith in the transformative power of education. They recalled the challenges that existed when he began his work in the region nearly four decades ago. Many remote villages lacked access to educational facilities, while social and economic barriers prevented countless children from continuing their studies.

Despite these obstacles, Tiwari remained committed to his mission. Moving from village to village, he encouraged families to send their children to school and worked tirelessly to ensure that education reached communities that had long remained on the margins of development.

Those who spoke at the event emphasized that his contribution extended well beyond academics. He encouraged students to participate in sports, cultural activities and personality-development programmes, believing that education should prepare children for life, not merely examinations.

His efforts yielded results that are visible today across Bastar. Many students mentored by him have gone on to hold responsible positions in government services, administration and other professional fields. Others have excelled in sports and brought recognition to their districts at state and national competitions.

The gathering heard several accounts of how Tiwari’s guidance changed the course of young lives. Former students and community members described him as a mentor who consistently placed the interests of children above his own comfort and convenience.

Addressing the audience, speakers noted that development is often measured through infrastructure and investment, but the true strength of a society lies in individuals who dedicate themselves to creating opportunities for future generations. They said Shivmani Tiwari’s life stands as a powerful example of how sustained grassroots efforts can bring lasting change.

As he received the honour, the applause in the hall reflected more than appreciation for an individual achievement. It acknowledged a lifetime spent building hope, confidence and opportunity for thousands of children in one of the country’s most challenging regions.

For Bastar, Shivmani Tiwari’s story is not merely one of personal recognition. It is a reminder that meaningful change is often driven by those who work quietly, consistently and without seeking recognition. After 36 years of service, his contribution continues to inspire educators, social workers and young people across the region.
