Put down your pitchforks, fan clubs. The box office war we were all dreading (and secretly loving) has officially been called off.

After weeks of industry whispers about a potential “November Nightmare” at the ticket windows, sources close to Red Chillies Entertainment have confirmed to B-Town Insider that Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated actioner, King, has officially locked Christmas 2026 as its release window.
This isn’t just a date change; it’s a calculated masterstroke.
The “Royal” Retreat? hardly.
Originally rumored for a late-year release that would have put it dangerously close to Nitesh Tiwari’s VFX-heavy magnum opus Ramayana (starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi), the move to Christmas gives King a pristine, uncontested 45-day window.
“SRK knows the business better than anyone,” a trade analyst revealed exclusively. “Clashing with a culturally massive event like Ramayana would cannibalize screens for both films. By moving to Christmas, he gifts Suhana a solo release and ensures Ramayana gets its moment. It’s a win-win for the industry.”
Why The Hype for ‘King’ is Real
While Ramayana is banking on mythology, King is banking on pure, unadulterated “Mass” cinema with a twist. Directed by Siddharth Anand (the man behind Pathaan), the film is reportedly a raw, grit-heavy thriller inspired by the classic Léon: The Professional.
• The Hook: SRK sheds his romantic hero image to play an aging, ruthless assassin.
• The Debut: Suhana Khan stars as his protégé, marking her first theatrical release.
• The Villain: The internet is convinced Abhishek Bachchan has been roped in as the antagonist, though makers remain tight-lipped.
The 2026 Calendar is Stacked
With Ramayana targeting Diwali and King taking Christmas, Bollywood is setting itself up for a historic end to 2026. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) are already calling it the “Year of the Khans vs. Kapoors,” but for now, the direct collision has been avoided.
Siddharth Anand is currently wrapping up pre-production in Mumbai, with major action blocks scheduled to be shot in Europe later this spring.
Santa Claus might be coming to town in December, but the box office will belong to the King.
