RAIPUR, Sept 2 — The Chhattisgarh postal circle just opened the gates for 762 rural government jobs, and applicants won’t have to write a single exam to secure them. India Post launched the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Schedule-II recruitment drive today, targeting local candidates across Chhattisgarh’s districts for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak roles. The state’s local selection process skips standard written tests entirely, pulling directly from a system-generated merit list based strictly on Class 10 board results. But will a purely marks-based system genuinely find the best candidates to handle the state’s rugged rural mail routes?

The department isn’t looking for academic theorists; they need local operators.

Candidates applying within the Chhattisgarh circle must have passed Class 10 with compulsory credits in Mathematics and English. And they’ve got to prove local fluency. Applicants must have studied Hindi as a local language up to the secondary level to qualify for the state’s 762 specific slots. To qualify, candidates must fall within the 18 to 40 age bracket, though standard age relaxations apply for SC, ST, and OBC applicants. Furthermore, candidates must possess essential practical skills, specifically proving basic computer literacy and the physical ability to ride a bicycle for daily mail logistics.

Once selected, recruits enter specific Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) slabs based on their assigned roles. A Branch Postmaster (BPM) will earn a monthly allowance ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹29,380. Meanwhile, Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPM) and standard Dak Sevaks are placed in a slightly lower

The application process demands strict adherence to tight deadlines, with the official portal automatically shutting down at 5:00 PM on September 21, 2026.

How to Apply Online

  • Step 1: Visit the official India Post GDS engagement portal at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
  • Step 2: Complete your One-Time Registration (OTR) under the “Registration” tab by September 19 using an active mobile number and email address.
  • Step 3: Log in using your new registration number to fill out the main application. You must explicitly select the Chhattisgarh circle and lock in your preferred local district divisions.
  • Step 4: Upload scanned copies of your Class 10 board certificate, a recent photograph, and your signature in the required file sizes.
  • Step 5: Pay the ₹100 processing fee via the online payment gateway. The department has completely exempted female candidates, SC/ST applicants, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) from this payment.

So local applicants shouldn’t wait until the final week to log in. The physical document verification process is ruthless, and any mismatch between uploaded Class 10 certificates and the digital Digilocker database will result in immediate rejection.
