RAIPUR, July 13 — The National Medical Commission has approved five new government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh, and it’s immediately injecting 250 MBBS seats into the state’s healthcare pipeline for the 2026-27 academic session.
Students won’t have to wait years for this expansion. The seats drop directly into Geedam, Kunkuri, Manendragarh, Janjgir-Champa, and Kabirdham. It’s a calculated geographical spread. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai confirmed the NMC decision on Monday, calling it a landmark shift for regional medical education.

Geedam sits right in Dantewada, an area historically fighting Naxalite violence, while Kunkuri anchors the tribal belt of Jashpur. Sai didn’t mince words about this placement.
