RAIPUR — India celebrated its 77th Republic Day today with a historic display of military modernization and cultural heritage, set against a backdrop of strengthening global alliances and a significant internal victory over insurgency.

On the historic Kartavya Path, President Droupadi Murmu led the festivities alongside Chief Guests Antonio Costa (President of the European Council) and Ursula von der Leyen (President of the European Commission). This marks the first time the European Union’s collective top leadership has attended the event, signaling a “mother of all deals” in the form of a nearing India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

Chhattisgarh’s Dual Narrative: Triumph and Sacrifice

The state of Chhattisgarh captured national attention with its tableau themed “The Mantra of Freedom – Vande Mataram.” The display showcased the country’s first Tribal Digital Museum in Nava Raipur, featuring legendary heroes like Veer Gundadhur and Veer Narayan Singh.

Beyond the parade, a more grounded victory was recorded in the Bastar region. For the first time in nearly five decades, the Tricolour was unfurled in 47 villages previously held under Maoist shadow. State Home Minister Vijay Sharma hailed the event as a “triumph of the Constitution,” noting that these remote areas are finally being integrated into the national mainstream through the Niyad Nellanar (Your Good Village) scheme.

However, the day also carried a somber reminder of the cost of peace. In Bijapur’s Karegutta Hills, 11 security personnel (including DRG and CoBRA jawans) were injured in a series of pressure IED blasts during a search operation. The wounded heroes were airlifted to Raipur, where three remain in critical condition. Officials described the attack as an “act of frustration” by retreating insurgents as security forces continue to close in on remaining strongholds.

A Future-Ready Force

The parade itself debuted the “Battle Array” formation, a high-tech showcase of India’s indigenous defense capabilities, including robotic dogs, swarm drones, and the SURYASTRA rocket launcher. The flypast, titled “Operation Sindoor,” emphasized tri-service jointness, featuring Rafale jets and Prachand helicopters in a thunderous finale that left the millions watching—both on-site and globally—in awe of India’s trajectory toward Viksit Bharat.
