GURGAON, June 9, 2026 — A Gurgaon man lost his job after a video of his controversial “Rs 370 biryani” remark during Pranit More’s comedy show went viral and triggered widespread backlash.

The man, who worked at a design company in Gurgaon, Haryana, recounted a date where he spent Rs 370 on chicken biryani. When the woman asked him to drop her home, he allegedly sought sexual favours in return for the money spent. But the clip spread rapidly on social media, drawing sharp criticism.

His employer at Starvik Design quickly identified him and decided to part ways. In a viral video statement, the company boss detailed an internal review. They held meetings with employees, including women staff, and found no complaints against the man at work. Team members described him as professional, respectful, hardworking, and well-behaved.

And yet the firm stood firm. “Let me be very clear, the statements shown in the clip are offensive. They are nothing something I agree with; they are not something our company stands for, and they certainly should not be influencing young minds,” the employer said.

The decision came even though the incident happened outside office premises. Its impact, however, reached inside the company. Users on social media largely applauded the move, though some criticised the employer’s defence of the man’s character. “It’s even worse to defend him like this,” one commenter wrote. Another noted the man had started making funny reels on the same topic instead of reflecting.

So what started as a joke at a comedy show ended in real-world consequences.

Earlier, stand-up comedian Pranit More responded to the backlash and apologised on social media. The man in question also shared an apology.

The episode has once again put the spotlight on the thin line between edgy humour in live comedy and public accountability when clips travel far beyond the venue. In Gurgaon’s competitive corporate scene, where reputation travels fast, one ill-judged story proved costly.
